I did back up using TomTomHome and tried to format the flash memory as I was told by TomTomHome  but got the message that windows can not format the disc. All that is indicated flashing cross on restart and that's as far as I can get. I keep getting through the installation and then getting the error Error Writing File on TomTomHome. If your memory is 2GB or less you can use FAT16, greater than 2GB you have to use FAT32.  If your model has a slot for installing an additonal SD card The file size shows zero bytes, and Windows error checking was bombing out (it just said it could not complete, but didn't say why . like this 0 Traylaw You can see here how much reputation Traylaw has received from other members.

A lost tomtom is more expensive so I stay using the old map. If not, get it from here. I don't know what else I can do, but not being able to update the devices and the maps is starting to effect me using it in certain areas. I have no normal maps folders of the maps i purchased so i cannot manually put it on. Then restore your backup. A full format could either help or reveal an error in the storage.
